The Philippines, officially known as the Republic of the Philippines, is an island country in Southeast Asia with its capital city being Manila. The country spans over 7,107 islands in the western reaches of the Pacific Ocean and has over 200 volcanoes. The Filipino food can hardly be considered spicy which is quite unusual for Asia. In contrast to the Korean cuisine, spicy sauces or hot peppers are not common at all. Chicken, pork and beef, which are the most popular kinds of meat, are usually served with sweet barbecue sauce. At AsianFest, we want visitors not only to taste traditional local dishes but also to see the Philippine beach resorts; these will be on display in the Boracay area which we will move from the Philippines to Prague for a few days. The first karaoke machine was made in the Philippines, invented in 1975 by Roberto del Rosario. The Philippine rice terraces, located in the north of Luzon, are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Their history began more than 2,000 years ago. As for entertainment, nothing beats cockfights for the locals.
